The other evening while engaged in discussion during our daily family worship time, our dear 15 year-old daughter Galena was digressing into one tangential topic after another. Finally we patiently pointed out that while her thoughts were very interesting, we did need to try to stop going down so many rabbit trails. Without missing a beat, she innocently replied, “Hey! I saw a rabbit today…”

In a recent family conversation in the cozy family room festooned with the artwork of daughters (See my Flickr pages) we were discussing our children’s recent literature studies, and various literary devices. At the perfect moment in the conversation, 12 year-old Lydia chimed in with “Yes, and we learned about smilies too…”

Scene: Walking on the beach of the Oregon coast with Dad
Dad (after having his heels trodden upon several times): Karl, please watch where you’re walking, OK?
Karl: I’m just following in your footsteps…
Dad: That’s fine Karl. Just let me get out of them first.

A fellow developer sent me this link late last night. I confess I haven’t laughed as hard in a long time. Till I cried. After reading the first 2 or 3 sentences, I thought that this guy must have been writing on his 3rd or 4th pint in the wee hours. Whether or not he was, his diatribe is informative, insightful and at points killingly funny.
The comedy has as lot to do with hitting the mark, like David H. Hannsen did recently on
his blog with this little piece of Java code whose humor is inherent:
UploadedFile uploadedFile
= (UploadedFile) fileUpload1.getUploadedFile();
String text = uploadedFile.getAsString();

Karl (age 9): ” ‘obese’, what does that mean?”
Lydia (age 12): “It means you hit every corner you turn.”
