Blogging from TextMate!

Posted by Andrew Wed, 28 Jun 2006 18:33:00 GMT

No kidding.

There is now a TextMate bundle which enables you to blog directly from every Macuser’s favorite editor, TextMate. The bundle supports Textile and Markdown formatting, and works with Wordpress and Typo, among others. Allan has posted a nice little video to give you a quick start in using it.

If you’ve never fetched a TextMate bundle, here’s how.

OSX Security Software?

Posted by Andrew Mon, 08 May 2006 22:52:00 GMT

In the interest of reducing security threats to your Mac, you should go out right now and get the latest security software designed specifically to address OSX vulnerabilities. NOT.

Don’t be suckered by those marketing FUD, or so says ZD Net UK in this article, in which the threat of danger to your mac from malicious attacks is compared to the danger of death from choking on ice cream.

“Phew. At last, the world is safe from the thousands of Intel-specific Mac viruses, worms, trojans and other malware that make today’s OS X experience one long struggle against evil. Or it would be, were there any. Which there aren’t. Not one.”

ADC on Rails

Posted by Andrew Thu, 02 Mar 2006 01:42:00 GMT

Apple recently published a nice succinct tutorial on Ruby on Rails on their Developer website. Of course they point out that all members of the Rails core development team work with Macs. I have had the pleasure of working with several top notch Rails developers and in my experience they all do use Macs. I reckon it is same love for simple elegance applied to program development.

Reading over this article I get feeling that they have been spying on me. I too use TextMate and I recently set up Lighttpd to run on my PowerBook G4 to complement my RoR test environment. Their references for setting up Lighty in this article are the same ones I would recommend:

We will have more on Lighttpd in coming posts…

DHH, creator of Rails gushes about his new MacBook

For myself, I recently retired my dinosaur G3 iBook in favor of a last generation 15” PowerBook G4. I’m happy with that, and happy for all you guys with the big bucks who can enjoy the brand new toys.
