Core Values: Integrity

AVLUX takes its core values seriously. We realize that if we are going to claim Integrity as a core value, then we need to be sure we count the cost, and know what we are saying. We do not want to see the nobility of this beautiful word cheapened by our not fully understanding or appreciating its significance.

The word “Integrity” is cognate to “Integer” (WHOLE number), “Integrated” (various parts making up one WHOLE), “Integral” (necessary part of the WHOLE), etc. Fundamentally, Integrity means that a person is WHOLE in character and conduct, i.e. not fragmented, duplicitous, two-faced, or making ethical adjustments to suit the situation. If I am striving to be a person of integrity, I am seeking to be consistent, the same person whether at home, on the job, in the airport, dealing with team-members, customers, vendors, or competitors. We all inherently understand this universal truth: “What one sows, one shall also reap,” “What goes around, comes around,” etc.

Therefore, “to have integrity” only among a select group is impossible—it is a logical contradiction. Integrity by its nature means that I have it everywhere and in all circumstances. If I easily yield my integrity when having it becomes inconvenient or painful, I simply demonstrate that it is not really one of my core values.
