      <description>&lt;p&gt;In a recent family conversation in the cozy family room festooned with the artwork of daughters (See my &lt;a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/37941529@N00/125950762/"&gt;Flickr pages&lt;/a&gt;) we were discussing our children&amp;#8217;s recent literature studies, and various literary devices.  At the perfect moment in the conversation, 12 year-old Lydia chimed in with &amp;#8220;Yes, and we learned about &lt;em&gt;smilies&lt;/em&gt; too&amp;#8230;&amp;#8221;&lt;/p&gt;
